Schönbrunn Palace, one of the largest and most beautiful in Austria, is of course home to countless chandeliers and sconces. Naturally, many of them are from our company—after all, Lobmeyr was purveyor to the royal and imperial court. Of particular note, however, are the extraordinary chandeliers in the Bergl Rooms, the former summer suite of Empress Maria Theresa, named after her decorator Johann Wenzel Bergl. This unique set of rooms is entirely covered in murals showing themes ranging from untouched exotic landscapes to a highly artistic baroque garden. The Hansen chandelier that has adorned the rooms since 2011 marks a high point in artistic craftsmanship in the nineteenth century—an era in which, during Historicism, earlier epochs were used as inspiration for contemporary designs. The chandelier, cast of brass with rich ornamentation, is gold-plated. All crystals have been cut and polished by hand. This model, No. 1061-20, is still produced by Lobmeyr in the same imperial quality today.
