The National Museum is Sweden’s most important museum of art and design. While the historic main building is located in the centre of Stockholm on the banks of the Norrström, the institution also includes numerous castles and the Porcelain Museum in Gustavsberg. The collections include paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints from 1500 to 1900, as well as applied art, design, and portraits from the early Middle Ages to the present.

The Lobmeyr collection of the Swedish National Museum is primarily made up of exhibits produced from 1870 to 1880, and a large proportion of the pieces were purchased in 1878. Most of these are from very rare series, showing the unique perspective of the Swedish curators. These include drinking glasses from a service designed by Theophil Hansen with rich Greek engraving and rare drinking glasses made of coloured glass with enamel painting. The important Three Goddesses vase by Jaroslav Horejc and modernist designs by architect Oskar Strnad are both from the twentieth century.
