Built in 1955 and renovated in 2021, Terminal 2 is the oldest part of the Vienna International Airport. It has now been carefully refurbished, retaining as much as possible of the building’s original architecture and character while fulfilling modern building codes. The original chandelier design involved large balls of acrylic cord, like those commonly seen in shopping malls. However, this did not quite achieve the special flair the directors had in mind. After all, this is the airport of Vienna, the city of music! What would be more suitable than Lobmeyr lighting, the directors thought. After browsing our selection of modern and classic designs, we found the perfect one with the Schloss Hof chandeliers. The design is 300 years old, timeless and simple with a subtle sparkle. The Prince Eugene of Savoy’s summer residence, for which the chandeliers were originally designed, is not even far from the airport. Another plus: It was possible to scale the design to the monumental size required for an airport concourse without skyrocketing the costs. Longevity and ease of maintenance are also benefits of this series. Our chandeliers now shine with timeless splendour—right in front of the new central security check for non-Schengen flights.
