The Philadelphia Museum of Art, opened in 1877, is one of the oldest museums in the USA and has a collection of more than 200,000 pieces of fine art and design. The collection reflects the unique history of the house and the passions of generations of Philadelphia collectors and curators. With innovative exhibition formats and programs, the museum fulfils its educational mission while remaining true to the belief that art can change society.

The museum’s glass collection consists primarily of design classics. Lobmeyr donated important modernist designs to the museum in 1979, including Hans Harald Rath’s complete Alpha set and drinking sets designed by Adolf Loos, Josef Hoffmann, and Oswald Haerdtl. Several of the items are from the first editions, including an original Haerdtl Candy Dish from 1925 and a historicist serving platter with gold-plated mounting and rich crystal-like engraving designed by Hermann Herdtle and Josef Salb. In 2014, several of Lobmeyr’s contemporary designs were featured in The Main Dish exhibition curated by Erica L. Warren.
