In 1963, the chandeliers for the Luxembourg Theatre became the first crystal chandeliers made for a fully concrete building. The building was designed by Alain Bourbonnais, a student of Le Corbusier. The bold, contemporary chandelier design by Lobmeyr owner Hans Harald Rath employs cylindrical, industrially manufactured sheet metal screens like those used for sorting gravel, which stand in stark contrast to the finely faceted crystal of the abstract elements. We also supplied matching sconces for the concrete niches that illuminate the modern architecture to great effect.
