The Glass House was built in 1949 by famous American architect and architecture critic Philip Johnson, who received the first ever Pritzker Prize for it. He lived in the fully glazed building until his death in 2005. Now managed by a foundation, the grounds have been open to the public since 2007 and are home to The Glass House Design Store. A carefully selected range of books, furniture, decor, tableware, and photo editions are available here, often with content related to the Glass House in some way. The store features glass by Lobmeyr, whose importance in the design history of the twentieth century, and in mid-century Modernism, is undisputed.
