Owner Rhett Butler (while his given name is Edward, his parents called him Rhett) is a jack-of-all-trades and, befitting this, E.R. Butler & Co. is by no means just a design shop but instead a universe of its own. The attractively designed showroom in Manhattan is a treasure trove of fine glass, porcelain, and silverware from major European manufacturers with whom the company has profound long-term ties—and with the Lobmeyr house as well. E.R. Butler & Co.’s specialty, however, consists of the design and manufacture of high-quality fittings—from doorknobs to drawer handles to lock rosettes. The company runs its own factory in Brooklyn with over 60 employees ranging from craftspeople to archivists. The company also manufactures historically reconstructed pieces and, if desired, will oversee the full renovation of your Victorian country house.
Advance notice is required to visit the New York showroom, where exhibitions and lavish theme parties are held on a regular basis.
