The Prague Museum of Applied Arts, founded in 1885, provides innovative education on important art and design pieces, architecture, and other fields of art. The museum’s permanent exhibition paints a lively, multifaceted picture of European applied art from the Middle Ages to the twenty-first century. Glass, porcelain, ceramics, furniture, textiles, graphic design, photography, and jewellery are just a few of the areas covered by the extensive collection, along with visual and written documents. The institution’s collection currently holds more than half a million items, which are housed in a newly built (2014–2016) central depot. The late-nineteenth-century museum building was also brought up to date during this time.

In late 2023, the exhibition organised by the Museum of Applied Arts in Prague on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of J. & L. Lobmeyr will present the history and production of the world’s leading glass company and will feature a large selection of fascinating displays. The exhibition will also explore the designs of many of the famous artists who worked with the company in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. There will be a detailed presentation on the crucial role the Bohemian glassworks and refineries played in the development and success of Lobmeyr glassware.
