A diplomat to London and back

This precious little fixture was designed by Ceno Kosak in 1966 for the Austrian embassy in London. There it adorned the public areas of the Regency building almost 50 years. Then they were moved back to vienna on occasion of a general redesign of the embassy. One of them has been put up for auction and was artfully restored at our ateliers.

Designed in the same year as the famous Metropolitan chandeliers the Embassy series features two distinctive elements from that project.

The main belt at the centre picks up on the geometric pattern of rectangular crystals inspired by the Met Opera‘s wall sconces.

With the Met‘s chandeliers it shares the sparkling crystal beads on top of long steel spokes. The Embassy line captures their rainbow fire even stronger.

The design was conceived as a small and precious fixture. It cannot be built with a larger diameter than 50 cm as the. The design‘s essence lies in the delicate proportions between its components.
We can build long versions of the Embassy fixture though that can be any length. These work nicely over a long dining table or a bar.
