A ball of crystal and light
The Cunning Sphere was originally designed as a wall light for a yacht that was to mimic a pendant light. Thus, it became a successful light design for hallways or small room. Taking inspiration from a geode it marvellously enhances even the smallest corner of any room. Leaving the sphere behind Cunning can take any form, even organically cloud-like shapes are possible to make.
The constructive elements of Cunning are gilded brass rings, set with a large octagonal crystal. These rings are soldered together inside a mould to become the outer skin of the lamp frame. The octagon‘s pointy tips lie towards the inside to best pick up the light from there and bathe the surface in its magical sparkle.

The name is a play on words with the designer‘s name and the composition of the lamp. It is technically possible to create a closed skin of regular arrangements of circles but this reduces the degrees of freedom with this design. By cunningly breaking up the geometric order Jack Canning opens up a world of endless variations. The irregular openings of the frame give the fixture a rough character and enable easy access to the actual light bulb.
