Sebastian Menschhorn
Designer
Sebastian Menschhorn (*1971 in Vienna) translates styles, forms, and functions into contemporary design with a profound knowledge of cultural and art history.
Menschhorn has a diverse clientele, and he has made a name for himself in particular through his work with traditional manufacturers and labels such as J.&L. Lobmeyr, Köchert jewellers, Augarten porcelain, Jarosinski & Vaugoin, Hermès, and Fürstenberg.
This results in modern yet timeless designs that are rooted in history yet tell new stories. Menschhorn studied industrial design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna under Paolo Piva and Toshiyuki Kita and has been working with graphic, product, and interior design ever since.
Sebastian Menschhorn created a drinking glass series in optical blown crystal for the fifth generation of Lobmeyr.
In 2003, he designed the exhibition and print material for a joint presentation—at Lobmeyr’s recommendation—under the umbrella of WIEN PRODUCTS on the occasion of the Wiener Werkstätte’s 100th anniversary. In 2004, the now classic “Glacier” series followed; the idea was to turn the cut of the glass into a sensual experience. He also designed the beautifully painted “Lebensblume” and “White Leaves” series. His iteration of the engraved pearl monogram was a radical rethinking of the concept. After 2010 came first the “Thom”, then the “Eckhart”, and in 2016 the calabash vases.
